An auto accident, burglary, fire, flood or other natural disaster can happen to anyone. An unforeseen loss or injury is not a pleasant thought, but they do occur and there are steps you should take to help prepare yourself.

Before you experience a loss, it is very important that you know what your insurance policies cover. Never take for granted that you are covered. Pay particular attention to the perils, property and situations covered in your policies, as well as dollar limitations and exclusions. Your Farm Bureau agent can help educate you on these important facets of your coverage.

In the case of an auto or property claim, we’ve outlined some tips to help make your recovery process easier, and ultimately quicker:

Catastrophic Event

In the event of a catastrophe (i.e. hurricane, tornado, etc.), stay tuned to TV or radio stations in your area for steps to take in reporting your claim.  If your county office is not affected by the catastrophe, you may report your loss to them as soon as possible.  Due to the sheer volume of claims received during these times, we ask for your patience as we work each claim in the order it was received.

If your dwelling suffers structural damage, take steps to secure your property and protect it from further damage.  If you incur expenses, save your receipts.  You can attempt to locate a reputable contractor to write an itemized estimate of your damage.  However, do not authorize permanent repairs until a claims representative has an opportunity to inspect the damage.
