Home Owner's Checklist

Before you even experience a loss you should:

  • Make an itemized list of your belongings and keep in a safe place away from your home.
  • Include photographs or videotapes with your list.
  • Keep receipts and other statements supporting the value of your possessions.

If you are in need of our services, here are some things to do as you prepare:

  • Follow up with a written explanation of your claim.
  • If a visitor to your property has an accident and needs medical attention, alert your insurance company or agent, regardless of who is at fault.
  • Do not alter the condition of your house before it is inspected by the claims representative; however, you should take steps necessary to protect your property from further damage by making emergency repairs.
  • Contact your Farm Bureau agent as soon as possible with all information relating to your claim.
  • Keep a record of any expenses you incur as a result of property damage, including expenses involved in temporary repairs. Also include any hotel and meal expenses, in case these costs are covered.
  • Take photos of the site after an accident or other disaster.
  • Our claims representatives are responsible for making sure the claim receives prompt attention and fair settlement. They are also responsible for detecting fraud and taking appropriate action when fraud is suspected.

Your policy allows Farm Bureau to inspect your damaged property. We will ask for an inventory of your damaged and destroyed property. However, you may choose a contractor of your choice to estimate repair costs. It is important that the contractor be experienced in repairing the type of damage involved. Usually the claims representative can provide you with a list of the names of experienced repair firms.

If you would like to make a claim, please use this form to begin the process. A Farm Bureau Insurance agent will be in touch with you.
